Founded in 1964, Camille Playhouse was created to stimulate interest in theatre by the presentation of plays and the development and application of the arts necessary to such presentation, utilizing the talents and abilities of interested persons in Brownsville, Texas and the neighboring communities.
Executive Artistic Director
Chris Ikner is the Executive Artistic Director for Camille Playhouse and is absolutely ecstatic to be here in Brownsville! In addition to directing the mainstage shows for Camille, Chris has developed the youth programming and 2nd Stage @Camille series. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Musical Theatre, Chris was the Director of Performing Arts for Atlanta Country Day School in Atlanta, Georgia, and creator/director of the high school internship program with Act3 Playhouse. Prior to that, Chris was the Artistic Director for Honeybee Theatre Initiative.
Some favorite performance credits include "Jekyll and Hyde" (Act3 - Metropolitan Atlanta Theatre Award Winner - Best Leading Actor in a Musical), "Cabaret" (Next Stage), "Cinderella's Mice" (Off-Broadway; Vital Theatre Company), "Beauty and The Beast - Live OnStage" (Walt Disney World, Orlando, FL), and "Fiddler on the Roof" (2nd National Tour - '06)
Zachary recently came on board with Camille Playhouse as the new Office Administrator. As an educator he spent 9 years as the Lead Instructional Support Teacher and American Sign Language Instructor for The Joseph Sams School, a school for children with special needs.
Zachary holds a B.A. in Vocal Performance with a Minor in Education from Mercer University and has served as the music director for theatre at Starr’s Mill High School (Fayetteville, Georgia) where he has worked on "The Addams Family" (2015 Shuler Hensley Showstopper Award Winner), "Shrek: The Musical," "Urinetown" (2013 Shuler Music Direction and Direction Nominee), and "Zombie Prom" (2012 Shuler Music Direction Nominee and Direction Winner). Some 2015-2016 production credits include music directing "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" (The Henry Players) and "Legally Blonde" (SMHS) He is thrilled to be here in Brownsville and is very excited to work with such a talented community!
